A Facebook friend posted this recently. So relatable, right? Motivation alone isn't enough to get chores done, especially those with neurodiverse brains, like ADHD. 🫠
Instead of relying on that unreliable friend motivation - that comes and goes - try using a strategy that actually works long term.
Effective tip to get chores done: Start small with chores and create a cascading motivation feedback loop! Small chore wins can give us those little dopamine hits. This can be an effective strategy for many brains.
Let me expand on that a little by sharing a story…
The kitchen is a royal disaster and I've been avoiding it, but we need plates to eat out dinner. So, I start with finding plates to wash and then bowls. Once they're washed, I get a little bug (and energy/capacity) to help a child empty the dishwasher. And then I don't want to stop! I organize the mess of dishes to put into the dishwasher. I stop there because we need to eat supper, but look at one small action did? Sometimes we need to actually *do* something to get out of our frozen funk. Try it and see if it helps!
PS In my paid portion of my Substack newsletter, you’ll receive specific help with chore tasks such as how to deep clean your toilet or meal plan. Consider upgrading below to keep this publication afloat by yours truly! ;)
