Does your living room often look like a tornado hit it? As a homeschooling mom of five (ages 14 to 1.5), I get it. It often looks like a zoo here lol. Today, I’m sharing four practical tips to transform that chaos into a tidier space without chasing perfection. My goal isn’t a perfectly tidy home here as that’s unattainable, but I would like to see it be quick-to-tidy and I’d like that for your living room too. Let’s dive in!
Four Ideas to Go from Living Room Explosions to Clear Floors
Use baskets, boxes, and bins to organize and reduce visual clutter. When these are used, the room just looks and feels a lot less chaotic. It also helps with giving boundaries around how much stuff you have.
Have designated places for everything. Having a "home” for everything helps with quicker tidying up sessions. Marie Kondo is big on encouraging people to have a spot for everything. That's one of the teachings that stuck with me when I read through her method years ago. You can find more about her method here.
Declutter first and then organize after. Don't bother wasting your energy on organizing if you plan to declutter soon because then you’re organizing stuff that's going to be gone out the door! Right? See this blog here on why you should declutter first before organizing.
Bookshelves/hidden shelves for quick tidying up times. I love a hidden shelf with doors for books and toys. It just reduces a lot of visual clutter and looks oh.so.pretty. It makes it so much quicker for tidying up too.
