Picky Plates - the Ultimate Easy Meal Idea for all Children
The Simple Meal Planning 101 series is all done now, but I have a couple more posts to do on some meal ideas and then I’ll be switching gears to talking about other areas of the home. Today I’m chatting about our favorite, easiest meal - picky plates!
What’s a picky plate? A picky plate is a term that stuck in our home that I use to describe a plate of food that you can “pick at”. Our picky plates are often large round trays with separated sections and often have a dip in the middle (like hummus). Sometimes it’s just plates of food that are “picky” though.
Why picky plates? I’m home full time and I’m responsible for planning all the meals. We eat the same breakfast most days, so I wanted something easy for lunch too. No thinking required for lunches. Enter picky plates. I’ve also heard them called finger food plates too, but I like the name “picky plates”.
Benefits of Using Picky Plates
Picky plates can reduce mental fatigue.
There are many ways to do picky plates.
Kids can easily help prep picky plates.
Bonus? Picky plates can be prepared in advance. We have many items in mason jars for our family that we use for picky plates such as nuts and dried fruit.
I use my picky plate planner page from my Simple Meal Planning Guide to plan it out. I make sure to have a variety of foods from different food groups such as:
nuts
dairy
protein
fruits and vegetables
You can find out more about picky plates in my Simple Meal Planning Guide that includes printables and steps to make your own picky plates as well.
